Arien Herrmann, with over 20 years of experience in healthcare management and emergency response, actively strives to address health challenges in Southern Illinois. Following his military service in the Marine Corps Reserves and later the U.S. Coast Guard, Arien embarked on a career that took him to all seven continents. He has provided emergency medical services during major crises, such as the Darfur genocide, the Haitian earthquake in 2010, participated in Deepwater Horizon Disaster Response and a scientific expedition to Antarctica. Arien holds a degree in Environmental Resources & Geography and a master’s in healthcare management. He is pursuing a diploma in climate medicine, highlighting his commitment to integrating climate considerations into healthcare. As the Regional Hospital Coordinating Center Manager for Southern Illinois, he played a critical role during the COVID-19 pandemic, managing resource tracking and coordinating vaccine distribution through SPARC. Arien is active in professional organizations, demonstrating his dedication to continuous learning and mentoring, particularly through his involvement with the American Red Cross. His lived experiences reflect a career dedicated to healthcare, emergency management, and the evolving field of climate medicine, demonstrating his versatility and leadership in addressing some of the most pressing health challenges of our time.
